THE GOLDRUSH event looks to merge Central Otago's history with the district's appeal today. By linking the regions early Gold Mining history with the districts present-day draw as a cycling adventure destination, the event ties the regions past and present identity
THE GOLDRUSH is today a single-day cycle race event from Outram on the Taieri Plains on the outskirts of Dunedin, to Alexandra, and the meeting of the Clutha Mata-au and Manuherikia rivers in Central Otago It follows the historic Old Dunstan Road, once the route used by prospectors in their thousands as they rushed into the regions interior the most direct way to claim their share of the riches that lay in the gold discovered there in 1862.
Take a moment to take off the race blinders and an all-mighty scenic course will be unveiled, delivering grand views that will be etched forever in the minds of riders.
The Goldrush tempts all those who love to cycle to muster their strength and take on a challenge with a real story to it. Once a route travelled by prospectors in search of the bountiful gold riches that once lay to be found, today riders’ journey/race into Central Otago over the very same original route to uncover the golden riches that present themselves in the way of the region’s world class cycle trails.
