Course Training & Preparation

  • Road Closure

Note: The Old Dunstan Road is an historic route that is closed between the winter months of June through to October. The road climbs high and is very exposed to environmental elements, which can change quickly. There are no settlements on route, so if you plan to do any training rides over the road, we strongly recommend you pick your date, always check the weather forecast first, inform others of your intentions, ride with friends and travel well prepared to sufficiently achieve your planed ride. No one wants to be part of a disaster story!

  • Event Schedule

THE GOLDRUSH event is scheduled to be raced in the height of summer, when days are longer temperatures are warmer. The event will have two Refuelling Stations on route, and a transition for those splitting the challenge with another. Whist signage will be on route, navigation, preparation and self-sufficiency fall squarely on those taking on the challenge. The event will have traffic management in place, and both professional bike mechanics and medial personal will be about to provide their service to those who get themselves into a bit of bother (albeit, it could be a while before they get to you… its big country!).

  • Preparation

Preparation is vital part to all riders success and enjoyment of the event. There is a commonly used saying “Piss poor preparation, leads to a piss poor performance”, and THE GOLDRUSH is no event to take lightly. Riders are encouraged to seek advice and train accordingly to achieve their event goals.
