THE GOLDRUSH is an epic new cycling event tracing the original Gold Miners route between the Dunedin & Central Otago, from Outram (on the Taieri Plain) over mountain ranges to the settlement of Lower Dunstan (renamed Alexandra in 1863) over the historic Old Dunstan Road.
Raced in a single day, the route is an honest arduous, roughly 145km remote back-country ride, inland from the Outram near coastal Dunedin, to Alexandra and the heart of Central Otago’s gold claims, following the historic Old Dunstan Road worn out by early miners in the rush to riches.
With some 2670m of altitude gain & loss, exceeding 1000m height above sea level on two occasions (once in each half of the course), it takes a special breed of hardy men and women to endure and conquer THE GOLDRUSH.
